The Tuscan Treasure

The Tuscan Treasure

Tue June 7th 2022

I am so lucky to be in Italy, Tuscany, and specifically the Hotel Fontelunga & Borgo 69.

I think all kiwis dream to come to Tuscany. And if you have been once, then to come back (and for me, back again) . And to be honest when I say Tuscany, I include Umbria. Sorry to the Italians who are very proud of their regions! But this part of Italy is so special. I have been driving to some amazing small villages. Always on a hilltop; Monte San Savino, and today Lucignano. Both, no more than 20 minutes away. The church, the piazza, the cobbles. The history, the perfectly formed walls. All there. You don’t always have to go to the big hilltop towns. And yet you can’t miss Arezzo, Cortona, Assisi …

So you have driven on the small roads, found a park near the walled hilltop town, had a gelato (I have to say I am so impressed with how much ice cream the Italians eat !!) and perhaps a glass of wine in the sun whilst watching the people who live in these amazing villages/towns come and go. When you have done all that – you come back home ! You come back to Hotel Fontelunga where there is an honesty bar set up for you; wine, negroni, ,my new favourite limoncello spritz perhaps. Where the pool is saying come on in and cool down. Where the staff will advise you on where to eat and book your restaurant, or help you decide what to do tomorrow. It is truly like coming home. As you chat to your fellow guests, no one can quite work out what makes Fontelunga so special. So you simply have to believe it is a Tuscan treasure. And so it is no wonder that the creators of this magic; Paulo and Philip have just been named (again) in the Travel + Leisure where to stay in Tuscany article. Bravo e complimenti
